"EXTREME GUITAR SHRED" DVD REVIEW IN MICHAEL'S MOVIE MAYHEM
"The Great Kat is the reincarnation of Beethoven, a Juilliard grad violin virtuoso turned blood-dripping guitar shredder-metal messiah-high-priestess-of-guitar-shred." -- Quoting The Great Kat - The Buzz List Interview: The Great Kat

The fifth horse-woman of the Apocalypse leaps from a Boris Vallejo canvas in an attempt to resurrect classical music for the "moron masses!"

Take Beethoven, Wagner, Liszt, Vivaldi, Sarasate, et al, pour into a blender and shred full speed for 2 minutes and pour yourself a tall one! Down it quickly while flipping wildly through Heavy Metal Magazine cum WWE SmackDown while someone slaps you across the ears repeatedly. Even this won’t come close to watching the 2-minute video vignettes presented on DVD Extreme Guitar Shred by the Great Kat.

While melding of rock and classical has been around for some time (Procol Harem's "Whiter Shade of Pale" -- Bach and Dave Edmunds in Love Sculpture’s "Saber Dance" -- Khachaturian come to mind), none have taken the hell-bent-for-leather approach of The Great Kat. With a combination of actual authentic classical music scores, blistering metal guitar licks, violin shredding and leather dominatrix outfits, The Great Kat is out to bring you to your knees.

This will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re interested or a fan, it’s not to be missed. For fans, one would like to see (and hear) more of The Great Kat actually play her guitar and violin. But there is enough play (both musical and camp) in the videos to make it worth the view.

Most of the sound mixes unfortunately push The Kat’s shredding into the background. For a better listen, check out her CD, "Wagner's War" featuring War, Zapateado, and Hungarian Rhapsody #2. Visually, the DVD is about what one would expect, quickly edited videos accompanied by music.

Prepare yourself for a quick and heavy exposure to the World of The Great Kat in the 6 shred videos on the Extreme Guitar Shred DVD. Don’t be shy, and please don’t be prudish (it won’t do you any good).
