SYNOPSIS: The Great Kat - Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen :
Pablo de Sarasate, composer of “Zigeunerweisen” was a violin virtuoso from Spain who composed this famous gypsy violin waltz in 1878. “Zigeunerweisen” or “gypsy airs” is based on Hungarian music. Sarasate famously recorded himself playing his own composition “Zigeunerweisen” in 1904, a rare recording that actually influenced Katherine Thomas (The Great Kat) to tackle this virtuoso work as a Classical violinist at Juilliard. Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen” is a technical violin piece with fast runs, high-speed fingerings and crazy string jumps.
