ALDOUS HUXLEY, brilliant British Novelist, Satirist and writer of the FUTURISTIC PROPHETIC DYSTOPIAN NOVEL "BRAVE NEW WORLD" about a CONTROLLING GOVERNMENT in the YEAR 2540!
ALDOUS HUXLEY BIOGRAPHY
1894-1963

ALDOUS HUXLEY, brilliant British Novelist, Satirist and writer of the FUTURISTIC PROPHETIC DYSTOPIAN NOVEL "BRAVE NEW WORLD" about a CONTROLLING GOVERNMENT in the YEAR 2540!

ALDOUS HUXLEY was born on July 26, 1894 in Godalming, England. Huxley was the grandson of British biologist, Thomas Henry Huxley  Aldous Huxley was partially blind since childhood and his family was known for their intellectual prominence. Huxley studied at Eton in England, specializing in Biology. He contracted keratitis and became partially blind. He was able to read with a magnifying glass. Huxley became interested in philosophy and English literature and received a degree at Oxford University in 1915. Huxley met Aleister Crowley in Berlin in 1930 and was introduced to the effects of the hallucinogenic drug, mescaline.

Huxley established himself as a writer and satirist and began writing about decadent societies and his disgust for the modern world. He was influenced by H.G. Wells' vision of the future. But instead of writing a utopian future, like H.G. Wells, Huxley went in the opposite direction. Huxley wrote the famous prophetic, futuristic novel "BRAVE NEW WORLD" in 1931. "Brave New World" is set in London in the year 2540 and presents a nightmarish, frightened dystopian world and controlling government. Huxley makes a statement against totalitarianism and technologies threat to an individual's liberty. In the book, there are 5 castes of society: "Alpha", "Beta", "Gamma", "Delta" and "Epsilon". The alphas are the leaders and the rest are physically and mentally inferior. Tranquilizers are used to keep adults in line and keep the peace. Only a few women are allowed to reproduce. People are conditioned to not be competitive with each other. Each person is bred to do only 1 job. There are also non-civilized "savages" allocated to specific regions. Huxley conceived the title of "Brave New World" from William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" where the Miranda character declares "How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world."

Huxley came to the U.S. in 1937 and began living in California. In 1953, Huxley took mescaline and became aware of the effects of hallucinogens and psychedelic drugs. Huxley began writing about drug experiences (LSD) and mysticism in such books as "The Doors of Perception" (1954). Huxley came up with the title of that book from reading William Blake's "The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell" and the rock band "The Doors" were influenced by Huxley's "The Doors Of Perception". In 1960 Huxley was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer and died on November 22, 1963.

Aldous Huxley's brilliant "Brave New World" is considered one of the greatest novels in history.
