"Extreme Guitar Shred" DVD Review in Vault Zine
By Darko, Hammerhead Zine

The Great Kat – “Extreme Guitar Shred” DVD

We’ve waited too long for video statement of this magnificent artist. This lady is in metal for so long, so she is some kind of a legend among the fans. Up to now she has released two full length albums four EP’s and one CD Rom.

The Extreme Guitar Shred DVD represents videography from the last four ep’s with some bits and pieces of some live performances filmed in Chicago where you can see and hear The Great Kat’s unique talent for playing and torturing the crowd. She has combined great playing both guitar and violin with S/M elements. We only regret that this full concert is not released on this DVD.

The only thing that’s not in order is the lack the older material, especially “Beethoven Mosh” video from the Kat’s second effort. Also one can protest about the songs that are chosen to be videos such as “Torture chamber” and “Dominatrix”, because better ones do exist. Her better material is the great “William Tell Overture” that in my opinion represents The Great Kat in the best light.

All in all, this is the great release in underground metal and it just goes to show that you don’t need big record companies and ego trips of some stupid executives. This is a must for all of you who are tired of so called neo-classical guitar players and want to hear REAL GUITAR SHRED!!!!!!!!!!!!
