Beginning her career as a concert violinist, The Great Kat sound tired of the world of staid classical music and decided to blend her two great passions – rock and classical music. She has since pioneered a brand of music that mixes speed metal and classical music in a way that creates something wholly new and remarkable. Considered one of the finest speed metal guitarists in the world, she has recently released a DVD of concert footage and videos entitled Extreme Guitar Shred.

1-What was it like attending Julliard?

Answer:

The Great Kat was awarded a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to the Juilliard School at 15 years old and was the CONCERTMASTER of the JUILLIARD PRE-COLLEGE ORCHESTRA. I also winner of the ROBERT HUFSTADER AWARD for THEORY and COMPOSITION at JUILLIARD. At Juilliard I had lessons in theory, solfegge, orchestral training, chamber music, violin repertoire, piano, music history and much more. The Juilliard School is the MOST COMPETITIVE, AGGRESSIVE, TECHNICAL, PUSHY, DEMANDING and VIRTUOSIC SCHOOL IN THE WORLD.

2-Did you first fall in love with rock and roll there?

Answer:
NO!!!!!

After graduating from the Juilliard School and performing my Solo Violin debut at Carnegie Recital Hall as Winner of the Artists International Competition on Violin, I realized that CLASSICAL MUSIC WAS DEAD and KILLED by A LONG LINEAGE OF NON-VIRTUOSO IDIOT COMPOSERS like Cage, Schoenberg and Glass!!!!!!!!!!

I realized that my mission was to UPDATE Classical music and bring it to the MASSES!!!!!!!! After listening to all popular music forms, I discovered HEAVY METAL and decided that METAL GUITAR was the closest to CLASSICAL VIOLIN and began incorporating note-for-note violin solos & exact Classical motives in heavy metal music and therefore invented “SHRED/CLASSICAL”-The brilliant, unique and complex music, which combines FINGER-BLEEDING Guitar AND Violin shredding, Speed metal band and AUTHENTIC Classical music TRANSCRIPTIONS into ONE GENIUS MASTERPIECE!!!!!!

 
3-What classical piece made you want to get into rock and roll?

Answer:
Beethoven’s Symphony #5-Brutal, Vicious, Pounding and BRILLIANT!

4-What rock and roll piece made you want to get into classical?

Answer:

6-What has it been like dealing with your growing fame and visibility?

Answer:

-Enter entire score in Sibelius Composition Sofware

-Edit, arrange, orchestrate, and recompose for Orchestra and Band.

13-There are definite elements of horror in your performance and videos, what
inspired you to explore those images?

Answer:
RAW ANGER, OUTRAGE, AND PURE FURY!!!!!!

“WAGNER’S WAR” CD was INVENTED on 9/11, when The Great Kat, who LIVES in NEW YORK CITY and Long Island, NY, was in my recording studio on Long Island, rehearsing music for my new CD. When I saw the images of the World Trade Center being attacked and being destroyed I was FURIOUS, OUTRAGED and HORRIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My CD IMMEDIATELY became a BATTLE CRY to WAR – “WAGNER’S WAR”!!!!!!!! The Great Kat’s “RIDE OF THE VALKYRIES” (from Wagner’s Opera Cycle “The Ring”--“Die Walkure”) IS the “BATTLE CRY” to WAR!!!!! On “WAGNER’S WAR” CD, the song “WAR” was written out of SEVERE RAGE and the song “TERROR” was written in HORROR out of the TERRORIST ATTACK on THE WORLD TRADE CENTER AND MY CITY-NEW YORK CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

14-What horror movies do you find yourself drawn to?

Answer:
“The Shining”.

15-Do any other movies inspire you?

Answer:
“Amadeus”.

16-You seem very comfortable with your sexuality and your image, do you consider your image as a way to get the attention of people who may not believe you are as talented as you are or as another aspect of your on stage persona?

Answer:
The Great Kat is a BLOOD-DRIPPING GUITAR VIRTUOSO who wears LEATHER and SPIKES SPECIFICALLY to HELP MORONS WAKE UP and TAKE NOTICE TO SHRED/CLASSICAL MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

17-Do you prefer the road and touring or writing and recording music?

Answer:
BOTH are EXCELLENT ways of SPREADING SHRED/CLASSICAL to the MASSES!

 
18-Would you rather be known for being a rock pioneer or a classical music
pioneer?

Answer:
