"WAGNER'S WAR" CD Review in Guitar Mania - The Best in Neo-Classical & Shred Guitar

The Great Kat – “Wagner’s War”

Shred Guitar Goddess The Great Kat rips through some of classical music’s most famous battle inspired compositions with the force of a chainsaw on uppers – fast is not even a word that begins to describe the velocity of the great ones playing. Kat is in a category all by herself with technical abilities that are not of this world. At 15 years of age she was given a scholarship to study violin at the prestigious Julliard School of Music where she developed her terrifying chops. After graduating and playing violin recitals all over the world, Kat or Catherine Thomas (her real name) decided it was time to unleash her alter ego and take up the guitar. Transcribing true classical music scores to the guitar, Wagner’s War unleashes a mind melting cacophony of sophisticated guitar arrangements that buzz at the speed of light. All of the tracks on Wagner’s War mercifully clock in at under the two minute mark – the insane tempo of all the compositions would surly render ones mind to mush if they lasted any longer in duration.

The shred demon from hell persona is not really my cup of tea, but it seems to work well for her greatness – providing a demonic blood and mayhem backdrop for the over the top thrash till you die classically inspired guitar/violin renderings that are offered up on Wagner’s War.

Now don’t get the wrong impression, this sexy, violin/guitar prodigy can really play and her brilliance is amply showcased throughout Wagner’s War. Kat’s playing is very dynamic, expressive and often quite lyrical. This is a fantastic release for all speed demons and is the evolutionary link of Yngwie and Death Metal.
