The Great Kat does not mince words on puny mortals. Anyone with half a brain would realize that the queen of speed, the champion of all things shred and the uncontested ruler of humanity, a goddess who can play at speeds of 300bpm while punishing her sniveling victims into submission, does not have time to do anything other than peel your face off. Thankfully, no one with half a brain exists anymore, for the sheer ferocious power of The Great Kat’s new Beethoven's Guitar Shred DVD has burned all feeble human minds to a cinder in the wake of Kat’s invincible/truthful shred onslaught. This new bible for humanity has quickly left Kat as the dominant force on the planet Earth, but somehow, this unworthy, cringing simpleton of a drunken Welsh music journalist was able to quickly interview The almighty Great Kat as she blazed by in a comet of fiery riffing. MORGAN Y. EVANS: Hello, Great Kat! How are you today? What’s going on in your world this morning?

MYE: Yes, you went to Juilliard and studied music. I am sure you learned a lot there, but at what point did you make a deal with the devil for this off-the-charts speed ability? How do you stay interested in music once you are that good?! It’s like, what’s next? [laughing]

TGK: The Great Kat’s DEVILISH guitar SPEED comes from my highly-skilled Juilliard trained violin technique, which I place onto the guitar. I take my Paganini violin technique (a special left-hand technique I learned at Juilliard) and transposed onto the guitar. FYI: Paganini was called "The Devil's Son" and "Witch's Brat" for his demonic and amazing violin virtuosity. Audiences thought Paganini made a pact with the devil to be able to perform supernatural displays of technique! MYE: Us metal heads really appreciate what you do. Obviously you could play any style of music with your talent and yet you choose to wear leather, spit blood and play the fastest shred in the world! We worship you! We are unworthy of this level of shred? Why have you bequeathed this unto us lowly scum? Is it just to remind us how futile it is to resist your shred prowess?

TGK: The Great Kat has bequeathed my guitar and violin virtuosity to all you lowly scum, because METAL is the MOST BRUTAL, VICIOUS, POWERFUL, VIOLENT, and VIRTUOSIC FORM of POPULAR MUSIC and fits BEST with virtuoso Classical Composers like BEETHOVEN, PAGANINI, VIVALDI and BACH!!

MYE: I like the “Shred Geniuses” section on the DVD. Can you talk a little bit about these historical heroes of shred and how you are obviously the heir to Beethoven? You should check out the last Sepultura record A-LEX. It is based on A Clockwork Orange but they cover “Symphony No. 9”. It’s pretty rad.

MYE: I know you can probably play the guitar in your sleep, but do you ever do, like, warm up stretches for your hands and fingers or anything? I mean, I can’t imagine playing that fast without my arms flying off!

TGK: The Great Kat has a variety of virtuoso violin technical exercises, etudes, arpeggios and scales that I play on BOTH the guitar and violin to warm up my fingers to be able to BLAZE FURIOUSLY on the fretboard and fingerboard.

MYE: I’d like to thank you for the sheer face peeling power of this DVD. My friend Rob Stango (who owns a rock club, The Basement in Kingston, NY) and I blasted the DVD at 6 a.m. the other day and I am sure his neighbors are glad he is moving soon! But we had to teach them the truth about the inferno of shred! Sleep when you’re dead!!!

MYE: In the video for “Blood” there is, um, blood everywhere. Is it hard to play when things get slippery from the gore of the victims that you shred riff to death?

TGK: No, I actually find it AMAZINGLY EASY to SHRED ON THE GUITAR and BE A BLOOD-DRIPPING DOMINATRIX AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!

MYE: Some critics have said the DVD goes by too fast, but I found it perfect. I love that every video is just a few minutes of total insanity! Was it fun to shoot these videos? “Torture Techniques” looked like you were having fun.

TGK: BEETHOVEN’S GUITAR SHRED IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION IN DURATION AND SPEED!!! The “Torture Technique” music video (from Beethoven’s Guitar Shred DVD) was HOT FUN!!!! TONS of WHIPPING, CHAINING, TYING UP, ABUSING and HUMILIATING MY WILLING ABUSE VICTIMS WHO WERE HAPPY TO HAVE THEIR MISTRESS OF GUITAR TORTURE AND ABUSE THEM!!!!!!!!!! MYE: In the animated video on the new DVD for “The Flight Of The Bumble-bee”, you smash the little bumble-bee into pieces! That wasn’t very friendly of you. Where did the idea for the animation come from?

TGK: I took the story of “The Flight Of The Bumble-Bee” (which is actually from the Opera The Tale Of Tsar Saltan by Rimsky-Korsakov) and arranged it for a CARTOON starring The Great Kat High Priestess of Guitar Shred and the annoying Bumble-Bee!!!

MYE: Was it fun beheading those dudes in the “Islamofascist” video? Metal seems like a good way to annoy extremists, in that it brings so many people of different beliefs and backgrounds together. Look at how Acrassicauda were able to show people in the Heavy Metal In Baghdad film that some Iraqis really care about metal and are trying to live their lives like normal people without all the bullshit or wanting to hurt others (westerners included)! Now Alex from Testament even produced their record, an awesome survival story!

TGK: THE GREAT KAT’S “Islamofascists” music video is my RESPONSE after watching the ACTUAL FOOTAGE OF INNOCENT AMERICANS GETTING THEIR HEADS CHOPPED OFF BY ISLAMOFASCISTS!!! Now check out a clip of “Islamofascists” at this location.


MYE: Obviously it would be cool if you could go back in time and jam with Beethoven, but are their any modern day artists you’d like to share a stage with? Is anyone worthy?
